One good thing about braids is that with practice, you can learn to do it yourself. Even Men!
Braids have many names and different histories. The English braid, “Braids” or “Plaits” are the intertwining of three or more strands of flexible material, including HAIR!.
Pigtails (twintails or twin tails) are a pair of braids or ponytails on opposite sides of the head. In British England, pigtails refer to bunched hair that is plaited, regardless of position on the head.
French braids are the intertwining of three or more strands of hair in a continuous manner from the top or front of the head to the neck. French braids are also called “tresse africaine” meaning African Braid or “tresse indiane” meaning Indian braid. A French braid that is inverted is called a Dutch braid.
Cornrows are another form of braiding, it is a traditional African style of hair grooming, the hair is braided very close to the scalp using an underhand upward motion.
There are several styles of braids:
- Plaits,
- Pigtails,
- English Braids,
- French Braids,
- Dutch Braids, and
- Cornrows.
